St. John's College to Dedicate Garden in Memory of Beloved Student

St. John’s College of Nursing will dedicate its courtyard garden in memory of Jill Buffington on Thursday, May 3 at 4:30 p.m. Jill was a bright student pursuing a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing with the hopes of being a registered nurse when she unexpectedly passed away in September 2016. Sadden by the tragedy, the faculty and staff wanted to honor Jill in a special way.

Chancellor Charlene S. Aaron, PhD, RN, thought a garden would be perfect. “Jill was in her last semester of study here at St. John’s College of Nursing and she was a stellar student, with a big heart who was loved by her fellow students,” Aaron said.. “Our team thought the garden would be a nice tribute to Jill and a way to make something positive out of this tragedy.” The garden will include a picture of Jill along with inspirational words written by Jill for our students to reflect on as they enjoy the garden. Currently, the Buffington family is conducting a fundraiser to finishingfundraising to complete the landscaping of the garden and as well as add new picnic tables and benches.
